What is High Def?

High definition is the ultimate in resolution, meaning the sharpness and clarity of a displayed image. The term “high def” or “high resolution” is most often used to describe graphic imagery in which the number of dots (pixels) per inch is extremely dense, producing a very rich and detailed image. In video, resolution quantifies how close lines can be to each other and still be visibly resolved. High definition videos display either 720 progressively scanned lines (720p) or 1080 progressively scanned line (1080p).
